Did you feel a snapping in the shoulder while working out in the gym?
Wondering if you did snap your biceps muscles because it looks funny when you flex your biceps
The Biceps muscle is one of the major muscles in your arm that plays an important role in bending your elbow to bring your hand to your mouth and to turn your forearm to face your palm up. The Biceps muscle also plays a part at the shoulder joint to help lift your arm upwards. The Biceps muscle is perhaps one of the most visible muscle that gets worked on by most people when they start a gym program because aesthetically a well enhanced Biceps muscle implies a strong person. However, it is not uncommon that the Biceps muscle becomes overworked and the Biceps Long Head Tendon becomes frayed over time leading to a torn Biceps tendon.
The two main causes of a torn bicep tendon are injury and overuse. Injuries might be caused by lifting something heavy or falling on your arm. Most tears of the bicep tendon happen because of an injury. Overuse can cause the tendons to wear down or fray over time. This happens naturally as you age. It may also be made worse by repetitive motion, and is common in people who participate in sports such as weightlifting, tennis, or swimming.
3 Signs that you have snapped your biceps tendon,
1. Deformity of a lump in your upper arm at rest, and when you bend your arm to try and flex your biceps muscles the deformity becomes more obvious;
2. Delayed bruising to the whole arm a day or so later tends to indicate a large muscle tear;
3. Reduced power in your injured arm compared to your good arm.
