Do you experience sharp shooting pains in your wrist that causes you to drop what you are holding in your hand
Does your wrist feel weak and you struggle with even holding a cup of tea in your hand to drink Have you been told that you have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition characterised by shooting pains, numbness and tingling in the hand and wrist, making it hard for you to bend your wrists to use your hands to grasp and hold objects. The carpal tunnel is the space in your wrist which houses the tendons, blood vessels and nerves responsible for movement and sensation in your fingers.
When the tendons in the hand become inflamed from overuse or repetitive actions, they swell up and take up more space in the Carpel Tunnel. As a result the nerves and blood vessels that are housed within the same carpal tunnel become squeezed and injured, resulting in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Often people ignore the ache and pain in their wrists until it gets too severe and they are awoken several times a night with numbness and pain in their hands. Then they are referred to Orthopaedic Surgeons who recommend Surgery to release pressure in the Carpal Tunnel. Unfortunately, surgery isn’t the most effective option for treating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome as most people relapse after surgery when they return to their normal work activities. Surgery also requires post surgery rehab to manage the swelling, scar tissue and to retrain movement and strength in the wrist and hand.
