Is your knee pain located only on the outside part of your knee
Have you been receiving treatment for your lateral knee pain with limited outcomes
Is your lateral knee pain constantly flaring up after exercising
Did you know that your lateral knee pain may not be getting better due to your poor hip control! Poor hip control can contribute to various problems such as gluteal tendinopathy ( pain in the buttock muscles and inflammation in the tendons) , Low Back Pain, Knee Pain and Foot Pain. But the most common complaint for people who have poor hip control is lateral knee pain( pain on the outside of the knee) especially around the point where a large fibrous muscle band- the Iliotibial Band, that inserts into the outside of the knee joint. This means that a thorough assessment of the hip joint as well as the knee joint is key to determining the correct cause of your knee pain and the correct treatment strategy for overcoming your knee pain.
If your hip joint is the underlying cause for your knee pain, treatment strategies will include manual therapy to release the muscle tightness and reduce the inflammation in the hip and knee muscles, strengthening exercise for both the hip and knee joints and even motor control exercises to retrain the deep muscles in the hip.
These are just a sample of what the Expert Physiotherapists at My Favourite Physio will do when they run you through a complete assessment from hip to foot to work out the true cause of your constant nagging lateral knee pain.
