Do you look up from your mobile devices with neck pain and realise that you’ve been on it for an hour and a half already
Is your neck pain worse at the end of the day than at the start of the day
Perhaps your neck pain is simply present all day long, causing you discomfort and stopping you from focusing on your work
Did you know that the number one reason for neck pain is poor posture. Bad posture puts a chronic strain on the muscles at the back of the neck, and results in muscle spasms which at times is extremely painful. In addition to muscle tightness and spasms, this prolonged poor posture leads to joint stiffness which once again leads to neck pain.
Sitting in front of a computer that is too high or too low for your line of vision, for long hours in a day is typical for most office workers and students. With increase use of mobile phones our head position tends to poke forward and looking down which places a lot of stress and tension in the neck joints and muscles.
The one thing you can do to reduce your neck pain is to improve your postural habits, in sitting and standing. Stop and check your posture every 30-60 minutes, Is your chin poked forward and are you ‘slouching’ at your shoulders If so, correct yourself immediately by sitting upright, tucking your chin into your throat as you straighten up your lower back and pull your shoulder back as if you are being pulled upright from a string at the top of your head.
If trying to improve your posture actually feels painful because you have too much neck and shoulder muscle tightness and joint stiffness preventing you from correcting your posture, then you will need an Expert Physiotherapist to help you manually release the muscle tightness and joint stiffness.
