10 Nov 😬Have you noticed that your child is crawling by pushing through their big toes 🥴Been told that every child is different and they can crawl in different ways but you are still feeling concerned about your child’s crawling pattern
👶🏻Most babies typically start crawling between 6 and 10 months of age, although some may start a little earlier or later. Every child develops at their own pace, and there is a wide range of normal when it comes to developmental milestones like crawling.
There are also a variety of crawling patterns that babies 👶🏻will adopt as they move from commando crawling on their tummies to crawling on their hands and knees. Usually, as long as a baby demonstrates crawling in a reciprocal manner, alternating the opposite arm and leg equally, variations in crawling patterns are normal.
However, there are some crawling patterns that are not beneficial to baby’s foot and knee bone development which can impact babies gross motor skills development as they grow older. One of these crawling patterns is when baby is crawling by pushing through their big toes. 🦶When baby crawls by pushing through their big toe often what happens is they to cause their big toe joint to bend outward with their foot rolled in. When in standing baby’s big toe joint looks like it’s starting to develop a bunion. This foot posture can result in baby’s leg posture becoming more knocked kneed in standing.
If that sounds like your baby, it is important to see an Expert Paediatric Physiotherapist 🤓 to help correct baby’s crawling pattern as soon as possible.
