05 Nov Have you noticed that your child 🧒is walking pigeon-toed or duck-footed 🦆
😳Been told to just let your child 🧒grow out of it, but you’ve noticed that your child’s foot 🦶position isn’t improving with time
Here at My Favourite Physio, one of the common concerns we hear from parents is that their toddler is walking with their feet turned in or turned out. Some parents would describe it as being pigeon-toed when feet are turned in and duck-footed 🦆when feet are turned out. Often parents would have seen their family doctors or Paediatricians who advise that the child will grow out of it. Unfortunately, for many children, 🧒they do not grow out of it but instead the foot turning in or turning out seems to get worse with time and the child ends up tripping and falling a lot when they are walking or running.
There are many reasons why a child’s foot may turn in or turn out, and it is important to have their hip, knees, ankles and feet 🦵assessed by an Expert Paediatric Physiotherapist to determine the cause for the child’s foot posture. Different causes will require different treatment strategies to correct the foot posture.🦶
One of the simpler solutions for correcting a child’s foot posture is having Good Shoes.👟 Wearing good supportive shoes can provide correction to the foot bones, provide support to the ankle joints and allow the foot and leg muscles to work correctly so that the muscles strengthens over time and the child can learn to work with the correct posture and balance. A pair Good Shoes is not always the most expensive ones, but rather a pair of 👟shoes with a flexible sole that allows a child to bend their foot in the middle, a rubber sole that provides grip to the ground and a good heel counter to support the ankle joint.
When a child wears a pair of good supportive shoes, 👟you will immediately see them bend their knees and place their heels down on the ground with each step and walk with a sense of confidence and fall less frequently.😊
