08 Nov Ankle injuries are extremely common and can happen to anyone. They’re also greatly undertreated. 😳
The first response to an ankle sprain is often embarrassment  and to quickly brush it off as nothing, as you have just fallen over and twisted your ankle or had a near fall as your ankle gave way on the uneven footpath.
In major ankle sprains that include complete rupture of the ankle ligaments and broken off bits of ankle bone, the pain is immediate and excruciating  which will stop you from even standing in your ankle forcing you to seek immediate medical assistance.
It is the minor ankle sprains that are low grade strains of the ankle ligaments and the partial tears of the ankle ligaments without any bony fractures that often get ignored.  Many people are still struggling to put weight on their ankles but are still able to hobble  and limp on their leg. Minor ankle sprains happen very frequently and for some people repeatedly.
Once ankle ligaments are weak from repeated minor sprains, the risk of a complete rupture of the ankle ligaments increases significantly. Proper treatment and management of ankle sprains will prevent future major ankle sprains by promoting ligamentous repair and strengthening  the ankle ligaments.
So don’t wait until a major ankle sprain occurs before you are forced to stop and look after your ankle injury!
