15 Nov 23rd to 31st October 2021 is Children’s Week!
Children’s Week is a national celebration of children’s rights, talents and citizenship held on the fourth Wednesday of October in Australia to coincide with Universal Children’s Day. Every two years a new theme is chosen for Children’s Week to highlight a particular Children’s Right.
The Theme for 2021 is Article 15 – “Children have the right to meet together and join groups and organisations as long as it does not stop other people from enjoying their rights. In exercising their rights, children have the responsibility to respect the rights, freedom and reputations of others.”
Children thrive when;
1. We respect children’s choices.
Under Article 15, this means children being able to choose their own friends, set up and join groups, and come together to have their say.
2. We trust children’s capabilities and give them space.
For young children this might mean organising their own playtime; for older children this might mean setting up a group to discuss issues that are important to them.
3. We play our part to keep children safe.
This includes considering children’s online safety, talking to them about their personal safety and how to respect the rights of others, and learning more about how organisations can keep children safe.
Children’s Week 2021 is a wonderful opportunity to promote the rights of children and young people, and to celebrate their capacity to actively contribute to the world around them.
