Wondering what’s the difference between Sciatica and Low Back Pain
The Sciatic nerve is a large nerve, formed from nerve roots that originate from the spinal cord, which passes from the spine into the buttock, then into the back of the thigh and leg. Sciatica occurs when there is pressure on the Sciatic nerve, anywhere along the nerve as it travels from the spine to the leg.
Sciatica is often felt as a pain in the buttock going down the back of the thigh and sometimes around the outside of the knee as it goes down into the ankle. Almost half the population will experience Sciatica at some point in their lives.
Fortunately Sciatica can be effectively treated with Physiotherapy and the key to becoming pain free is the correct diagnosis of the cause of your Sciatica. Is it coming from your back, or buttock or thigh or leg Here at My Favourite Physio, our Expert Physiotherapists can help you by carrying out a 3 Step Process to determine the cause, the recovery process and the solution for your Sciatica.
