Experiencing shoulder pain so severe that you can’t sleep at night, you can’t lift dress yourself and ultimately, you are walking around looking miserable all the time
If that sounds like you, you aren’t alone! Shoulder pain can be really debilitating and has been shown to impact our quality of life. A study demonstrated that patients with shoulder pain for more than 3 months had a 22% rate of depression, 19% rate of anxiety, and 82% rate of sleep disturbance. While another study demonstrated that chronic shoulder conditions affected general health as severely as chronic medical conditions such as heart failure, diabetes, heart attack, and depression.
So it was no wonder that when our Expert Physiotherapist met Jane, who had severe shoulder pain, she was miserable. In her mid 50s, Jane was struggling to sleep each night due to her shoulder pain. On her initial consult, we found that she had chronic inflammation in her biceps tendon due to repetitive work she does each day as well as a hunched, rounded shoulder posture she tended to be in. She also had chronic muscle tightness and spasms in her neck and shoulder muscles down to her lower back.
Using Radial Shockwave Therapy, Soft Tissue Massage and K-Taping we were able to reduce the biceps tendonitis, muscles tightness and inflammation to help her overcome her shoulder pain. After her first session, she felt much better, and after her second Physiotherapy session, her husband actually said to her, ” You don’t look so grumpy!” By her third session, her husband said to her, “You look different! You look happier!” which was true for her, as she was no longer in pain from her shoulder and was getting good sleep each night. After completing her 6 week treatment program, Jane was completely pain free, had full range of motion in her shoulder pain and is now actively back at gardening without suffering shoulder pain after!
