Are you a new mum who is feeling overwhelmed at the moment
Are you making time to look after yourself
Everyone talks about the joys of the arrival of a newborn baby, few talk about the reality of how handling a crying newborn and sleepless nights can be extremely overwhelming for a new mum.
Here are 3 Common Mistakes that we see new mums are make, which causes them to feel overwhelmed in this new journey of motherhood.
1. New mums refuse to have some sleep when their baby is sleeping. Many new mums feel that when baby is sleeping, this is the opportunity for them to be cooking, cleaning and washing. So new mums could be up all night tending to an unsettled baby and up all day doing housework. Over time, mums become sleep deprived, overwhelmed and no longer have any energy reserves for when baby is sick. Instead new mums need to learn to go to sleep when baby sleeps.
2. New mums have an anxiety to create the perfect journey for their baby, especially with the era of instagram. Unfortunately, reality could be having a baby with special needs or an unsettled baby who cries most of the time or struggles with feeding and sleeping. In these situations, understand that every child is different and it is a journey of getting to know your baby and learning how to read their cues to manage their cares. And if Mother’s Groups make you feel overwhelmed, stop attending them.
3. New mums want to breastfeed their babies, which is great for both baby and mum. However, breastfeeding is a skill that needs to be learnt. Many new mums struggle with breastfeeding and find it extremely overwhelming and painful, yet feel guilty if they do not breast feed. Instead of struggling, reach out to Lactation Consultations who can help you with breastfeeding. And if breastfeeding becomes a miserable experience for you and baby. It is okay to stop breastfeeding and switch to bottle feeding. A happy mum is more vital to baby’s growth and development.
