02 Jun Babies should be able to sit by themselves by 7-8 months old.
Babies should be able to sit by themselves by 7-8 months old. Some babies are sitting by themselves at 6 months. By 8 months old, babies should be moving in and out of sitting from lying easily. If baby isn’t doing so, then they are likely to be delayed in their gross motor skills.
If your baby needs help to sit up or does not move out of sitting into lying or crawling then it’s likely that your baby is struggling with transitioning from sitting to lying or lying to sitting.
Maybe you have noticed that your baby is not able sit by themselves and they are older than 8 months old or you have noticed that your baby is sitting independently but slouching when sitting and falls over easily at 8 months old, then it’s likely that they have weak tummy and back muscles. Instead of waiting and hoping for baby to get better, why not speak to one of our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapist today? Ring My Favourite Physio on (02) 9790 4233 or DM us @myfavouritephysio to book a 15min free phone consult with one of our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists so that we can help your baby learn to sit by themselves so that they can achieve their gross motor milestones.
