29 Jul Let’s face it: you are your own toughest critic.
Let’s face it: you are your own toughest critic. Perhaps you are a new mum and feeling at the ends of your wits… Or an athlete trying to prepare for National competitions amidst school or university coursework, and part time employment…. Or a father working full time while doing a second after hours job so that you can afford that bigger home for your family…
When you are trying to juggle a newborn baby – feeding, dressing, settling, as well as cook, clean, wash and work part-time, know that what you are doing are the jobs of at least 3 people each day! So it’s not possible to be able to do everything perfectly all the time.
When you are pushing yourself to go to the gym and train even when you are nursing an injury, because you think that you can’t “give up” and let everyone else down. Know that your body is not made of steel, that you are human and your body needs rest. That it’s ok to stop and rest and allow your body to heal so that you can sustain a more successful career in sports for your future.
When you are struggling to stay up at night and falling asleep driving to work in the morning, all in the pursuit of saving up for that bigger house. Know that your family values you above all material needs. The children will prefer to have a dad who is healthy and well and able to run in the park than to have a big house where dad is not at home.
Sometimes it’s worth asking: Who am I doing this for? And What is truly important to those who are important to you..
You might be surprised to find that what you are striving for and what you use to measure your own worth by, is NOT what your significant others use to measure you by. Often its okay and in fact better to slow down, rest up and allow your body time and space to recover. By looking after yourself, you will be helping yourself to be the best version of you. And you might find that, That is all your loved ones ever want from you…
