SUCCESS STORY ALERT
Here at My Favourite Physio, we are always excited to share success stories of little ones we’ve seeing because we are so proud of their Wins. In addition, we believe that sharing success stories inspires others, but also provide lessons that other families can benefit from!
This is one of those wonderful Success Story that is not uncommon for us at My Favourite Physio. Miss T is one of the many toddlers, who we have been seeing for physiotherapy to help them achieve their milestone of walking independently.
When we first met Miss T, she was already 19 months old, she wouldn’t stand up to take weight on her feet when her parents held her up to try to stand and walk but she could pull herself up to stand on the furniture. Miss T preferred to crawl or bottom shuffle when left to her own devices.
As our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapist worked with Miss T, she could see that Miss T showed the physical capability to walk independently. However, Miss T would put up a tantrum by screaming and crying dramatically looking at her mother for help.
As such, our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapist suggested to her mother to stay outside of the therapy room when Miss T had her physiotherapy, so that the tantrums stop and learning take place.
When her mother wasn’t in the room, Miss T would still cry, but with set boundaries she soon understood that unless she stood up and walked across the room to get to a book, she was not going to be able have the book read to her. By the end of one hour, Miss T was easily walking independently across the length of the room. In each session that followed the amount of crying decreased, and the distance walked increased. Now Miss T is walking independently everywhere! Sometimes, your child will perform better when you are not watching.
