Imagine if you are told that your child with Cerebral Palsy is assessed as being Level 5, the most severe functional level of Cerebral Palsy, where they are confined to a wheelchair and defined as never being able to walk. Then with intensive hands on Physiotherapy, using advanced harness weighted walking methods, your child begins to learn to strengthen and move their legs to take steps. Over time and with a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication, your child reaches a point where they have gained enough skills and strength to take steps using a body support Walker!
How exciting would that moment feel as you see your child taking steps using a Walker?
That’s exactly how excited we are for two of our wonderful little clients, Master N and Miss R at My Favourite Physio! They are now classified as Cerebral Palsy Level 4, jumping up in their abilities, because they can now walk for short distances with a body support walker! This progression in their ability and “jumping” the curves in functional Levels, is seldom heard of in children who are 7 and 6 years old respectively in the research world. However, at My Favourite Physio, this is not an unusual accomplishment.
At My Favourite Physio we see lots of children with Cerebral Palsy of varying abilities, and our goal is to work with these children and their families to achieve each child’s best potential. By carrying out a
thorough assessment of each child’s strengths and abilities we tailor individualised treatment programs. Through intensive hands on therapy program in our purpose build clinic rooms, we have been able to help many children with Cerebral Palsy achieve outcomes that have defied the “norms”.
We have had many wonderful opportunities to work with families, who have unfortunately have been told that their babies and children are not ever going to walk, to defy medical predictions and achieve fantastic outcomes for each child.
