Have you been told that you have a disc bulge and it’s causing your low back pain
Did you know that low back pain can be a result of a combination of factors such as stress, overuse and poor posture
Unfortunately, when health professionals focus on imaging and disc bulges and disc compression as the cause of low back pain, it creates fear and negative thoughts for the low back pain sufferer. The common misunderstanding for them is that a disc bulge is a permanent structure that is damaged forever, so they will never recover from it!
In reality, disc bulges and disc compression found on scans are often not the cause of the low back pain in most cases. The more likely cause for low back pain is inflammation and overuse of the muscles in the lower back region. Inflammation occurs when there is some a chemical change such as change in hormone levels, stress or anxiety. So if you are very stressed about family or work related issues, this can create a chemical change in your body leading to inflammation and increase in pain sensation to your lower back. Overuse of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints in the lower back occurs when you are repeating one type of motion continuously without rest. For example, sitting in the same position performing a task for hours or bending and stretching to lay concrete for hours during the day will result in low back pain.
There are so many different structures in the lower back that works together to keep you upright and functioning. That is why low back pain is more than just disc bulges or disc compressions. There can be stress related factors, hormonal factors and overuse factors that scans don’t detect, and often misdiagnosed by health professionals.
