Is your child complaining of headaches months after a concussion injury
Have you been experiencing headaches since that sports related Concussion injury a few weeks ago
Did you know that headaches are one of the most common symptoms after concussion in children and adults
Concussion is a traumatic brain injury that changes the way the brain functions. Concussions can occur as a result of a direct hit to the head (by the ground or an object), or from violent shaking of the head and neck like “whiplash” injury in car accidents. Immediately after a head injury, a child or an adult can have symptoms that include headache, confusion, memory loss/amnesia for the time around the injury, foggy thinking, dizziness, double vision, slurred speech, problems with coordination, or loss of consciousness.Fortunately, the symptoms of a single simple concussion resolve in a week or less for most people, but a few children and adults will have headaches and other symptoms related to concussion for weeks or even months after their injury.
Immediately after a concussion injury, the child or adult will require medical assessment to rule out any major injuries such as broken bones or skulls, or internal brain bleeds. If all major injuries has been ruled out and you or your child is still experiencing headaches months after a concussion injury, it is important to be assessed by a Headache and Migraines trained Expert Physiotherapist to help overcome post concussion headaches.
