20 Oct ☹️Ever feel like life isn’t fair and things don’t seem to go your way 😳Or Perhaps you feel like you drew the short straw in life, if only you had more resources and opportunities 😠
Many years ago, at My Favourite Physio, we were very privileged to meet 31 year old Michael and share in his health journey. 🤓Michael was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) at 8 years old, and by 12 years old lost the ability to walk because of the progressive muscle loss as a result of DMD. However, that “slight hitch” didn’t stop Michael from being active and living a full life. He completed his 👨🎓Bachelor and Honours in Rehabilitation Counselling at the University of Sydney, played wheelchair rugby league,🏉 soccer ⚽️and hockey 🏑for 14 years before becoming National Electric Wheelchair Sports Coach for 7 years. He was actively involved in grassroots activities promoting awareness of DMD and won many awards including including the 4 Roger Melynk Awards, 3 All Australian Coach Awards and the Australian Government Sports Achievement Award In 2004. 🏆
Michael was only 33 when he passed away as a result of the progression of DMD, the legacy he left behind is never forgotten. 😢He has inspired many who came across his path and truly embodies the saying that “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.”💪
