👣Is your child complaining of heel pain that is worse during or after exercise 😖 😣Is your child limping from their heel pain

🦶Heel pain in children is not uncommon and can be caused by a few different issues such as Sever’s disease, Achilles tendinitis, a heel fracture, JIA, or Tendo-Achilles bursitis. The most common cause of children’s heel pain is Sever’s disease. This overuse injury occurs most often in athletic children ages 7 to 15, but may occur as young as 5. 👧

Sever’s disease, is not actually a disease but rather a heel bone (calcaneus) disorder. Sever’s disease is characterized by inflammation of the growth plate in the heel, where the Achilles tendon attaches. The condition typically occurs in children during a growth spurt, usually between the ages of 8 and 14 for girls 👧and 10 and 16 for boys.👦 During this time, the bones in the heel are still growing, and the Achilles tendon, which attaches to the back of the heel, may pull on the heel bone, causing irritation and inflammation.

Common symptoms of Sever’s disease include:
😬Heel Pain which may be worse during or after physical activity.
😬Limping to avoid putting pressure on the heel.
😬Tenderness in the heel to the touch.
😬Swelling around the heel.

Treatment for Sever’s disease typically involves Rest, Ice, supportive footwear, orthotic inserts or heel cups, and gentle stretches.
