💪Does your child enjoy sports and is involved in competitive sports 🥴Have you noticed that your child seems to be struggling to be performing at their peak despite having more training and coaching to improve their form

Australian research has shown that adolescent athletes who participate in sport specialisation experience greater burnout profiles than athletes who sport sample in a variety of sports. 😱Studies also reported that youth sport specialisation before the age of 12 is associated with increased burnout and dropout rates and decreased athletic development over time. In addition to burnout is the associated increased incidence of injuries.

💪Preventing overtraining in children is crucial to ensure their overall well-being, physical health, and mental development. Overtraining can lead to burnout, injuries, and hinder the child’s enjoyment of sports or other physical activities. According to Nathan Parnham, the author of The Sporting Parent, as parents we can help our young athletes prevent overtraining and burnout by helping them to pace the frequency and intensity of training they are involved in each week. 😊A useful formula to determine if your child is overtraining is to divide the total sum of weekly structured training in hours by the age of your child in years. The answer should be ideally below 1.

If your child is training more hours in a week than their age, they are overtraining and at risk of burnout and injuries. 🥺
