😬Have you noticed that your child has been limping for the past few days 🤔Wondering if they are doing it just to get your attention

Children may limp for various reasons, and it’s important to understand that a limp is a symptom rather than a specific diagnosis. The most common reason why children limp is because of a sprain, strain or fracture following a fall. At times, the fall is unwitnessed and if a child is young and not yet speaking or a child with special needs who is non verbal, it can be difficult for parents to figure out why their child is limping.

Here at My Favourite Physio, our Expert Physiotherapists 🤓 recently met a family who brought in their 4 year old son because they have noticed that he has been limping on and off for a few weeks. Initially, his mother thought that he was limping to get her attention because of sibling jealousy towards his younger brother who is 2 years old. However, after 2 weeks of intermittent limping, his mother thought something wasn’t right. On physical examination, the boy had pain around his hip, some swelling and tenderness on the side of his hip and did walk with a limp. Our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists sent him for an X-ray of his hip and fortunately it showed that there was no fracture.

The boy was treated with Low Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound to manage the soft tissue swelling and inflammation around his hip. While having treatment, the boy finally admitted that he had a fall a few weeks ago at preschool, when he was pushing and shoving with another child at preschool over a toy.
