09 Feb 🥴 Have you been told that your toddler who tip toe walks needs customised orthotics to help them learn to walk with their feet flat 🤔 Been seeing a Podiatrist for your child to get customised orthotics to correct their tip toe walking, but it hasn’t worked
Recently our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists 🤓met Master A who was 2 years old and walking on his tip toes 100% of the time. His parents were concerned about his walking posture when he was about 12 months old. They saw a Family Doctor who referred them to a Podiatrist and an Occupational Therapist.
The Podiatrist recommended that Master H gets a pair of off the shelf orthotics to help correct his foot posture to stop his toe walking. While the Occupational Therapist saw Master A weekly to work on stretching his calf muscles to stop his tip toe walking. After 6 months of weekly Occupational Therapy intervention, he was then reviewed by the Podiatrist to see if the orthotics made a difference. Unfortunately, the orthotics did not make any significant in stopping Master A from tip toe walking. Master A was still on his toes 100% of the time.🥺
Frustrated at the lack of progress and ballooning costs of intervention to date without any significant improvement in Master A’s tip toe walking, his parents managed to find My Favourite Physio via a Google search. On assessment with one of our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists, we very quickly determined that the cause for Master A’s tip toe walking was increased muscle tone due to Cerebral Palsy! 😳
😊The correct treatment strategy for Master A was then Serial Casting to stretch his calf muscles for 8 weeks, followed by a individualised Physiotherapy Early Intervention Program to teach Master A how to walk correctly to walk and to help him progress with his gross motor skills.
