01 Mar Has your child 👶🏻been having Physiotherapy yet you have not noticed any significant improvements over time 🧐 Are you wondering how long does it take before your child 👧demonstrates improvements in their gross motor skills 🤔
Here at MY Favourite Physio, our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists see many babies and children with various conditions to help them learn to roll, sit, crawl, pull to stand and walk. We expect to see progression and improvement on a daily basis and significant improvements every week when parents and carers follow their Home Exercise Program exactly while attending regular weekly Physiotherapy Intervention.Â
3 Common Reasons why  your child may not be demonstrating significant improvements in their gross motor skills with therapy:
1. The therapy exercises are not focusing on strengthening your childâs core muscles to improve their core strength. Good core strength is required for a baby to learn to roll, sit, crawl, pull to stand and walk.
2. The therapy exercises are not challenging enough for your child so your child is not able to progress forward, or often exercises are activities and positions that the therapist places your child into rather than your child learning to move themselves from one position to another themselves.Â
3. The intensity of the therapy is not frequent enough for your child to be able to learn a new skill. Babies and children benefit from constant and consistent practice. Once a fortnight or once a month therapy isnât enough to make a difference. Here at My Favourite Physio, our therapy programs range from 3 times a week to once a week in clinic and we recommend families carry out daily practice sessions at home for one hour twice a day.Â
