😬Have you noticed that your child’s spine seems to have gone crooked with their last growth spurt? 🤔Wondering does my child have scoliosis?

Scoliosis is characterised by several key features that can vary in presentation depending on the severity and type of the curvature. The primary feature is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine, but there are other associated signs and symptoms that can be observed:

🙁1. Visible Curvature of the Spine
The most obvious sign of scoliosis is a noticeable curve in the spine when viewed from behind. The spine may look like an “S” or “C” shape rather than straight up and down.

🙁2. Uneven Shoulders and Waist
One shoulder may appear higher than the other due to the curvature of the spine. Similar to the shoulders, the waist may appear asymmetrical, with one side being more pronounced than the other.

🙁3. One Hip Higher than the Other
The tilt caused by the spinal curvature can make it appear as if one hip is raised compared to the other.

🙁4. Prominent Rib Hump
In cases where the spine rotates along with the curvature, one side of the rib cage may become more prominent, especially when bending forward. This is often referred to as a “rib hump.”

🙁5. Body Leaning to One Side
Individuals with scoliosis may lean to one side unconsciously in an attempt to compensate for the imbalance caused by the spinal curvature.

🙁6. Differences in Leg Lengths
Apparent leg length discrepancy can occur, not necessarily because the legs are of different lengths, but as a compensatory effect of the uneven pelvis or spinal curvature.

🙁7. Impaired Breathing (in Severe Cases)
Severe curvatures can reduce the amount of space within the chest, making it difficult for the lungs to expand fully and function properly.

🙁8. Limited Range of Motion
The flexibility of the spine may be reduced, affecting the ability to bend or twist the torso.
