22 Mar March is The Leukaemia Foundation’s World Greatest Shave Month Blood cancer can develop in anyone, anywhere, anytime — from young infants and adolescents to adults of all backgrounds and genders. Today, another 53 Australians will be told the heartbreaking news 😢that they’ve been diagnosed with a blood cancer, joining more than 135,000 people living with the devastating impact of Australia’s second most diagnosed cancer. A range of things affect someone’s chance of surviving blood cancer, and it can be incurable. Sadly, another 16 Australians lose their life to blood cancer each and every day.
By 2035, these figures will more than double, seeing close to 100 people per day diagnosed with blood cancer and more than 40 people will die every day.
The Leukaemia Foundation is working towards the goal of Zero Lives Lost to Blood Cancer by 2035. In 2023, the Leukaemia Foundation will celebrate 25 years of the World’s Greatest Shave campaign. People of all ages will shave, colour, or wax the hair on their head, chest or face – supported all the way by proud family, friends, colleagues and classmates. Some will have a personal connection to blood cancer, while others take part simply to have fun, tick a bucket list box and raise money for a good cause.
When you sign up and raise money for the World’s Greatest Shave you’re giving people living with blood cancer the emotional and practical support they need. By raising money through World’s Greatest Shave, you are helping to ensure that families facing blood cancer have a place to call home during treatment, someone to turn to, and access to the best possible care and treatment. You will also be helping to drive funding for Australia’s best and brightest researchers in their quest to deliver rapid advancements in diagnosis, treatment, and ultimately a cure.
