Did you hurt your knee in a Rugby tackle
Or perhaps fell over on the ski slopes this winter skiing
Or even perhaps been told maybe your torn your ACL during a weekend soccer games with the kids
What is that ACL injury, that sports commentators seem to talk about all the time as the worst nightmare of any sporting professional
The ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) is one of a few bands of connective tissue which holds the femur (thigh bone) and tibia ( shin bone) together in the Knee. The ACL is a key ligament which plays a major role in knee stability. If there is no ACL, the knee will not be able to cope with the rotational force and sustain impact while maintaining good knee stability in high impact sports like soccer, rugby, running, volleyball, netball and skiing. In worse case scenario with damage to the ACL the knee can be dislocated completely!
Are you concerned that you might have sustained an ACL injury
Luckily to help rule out ACL injuries there have been 3 Effective Tests developed which allow Physiotherapists to determine whether you have an ACL injury or not! These tests can successfully rule out an ACL injury during an assessment of your knee and ensure that you get the right treatment for your knee pain! If you have an ACL injury, it is important to act fast so that you avoid pain, maintain good function, allow optimal healing to occur and get on top of your rehabilitation ASAP to allow you to get back to your favourite sport in the shortest possible time!
