26 May Does Your child have Text Neck?😳 Is your child spending more than two hours a day on screens and mobile devices
Text Neck refers to neck 😳pain as a result of looking down when using a mobile technological device, such as a 📱smartphone, or iPad, or laptops.
A 2017 Survey reported that kids under 8 look at mobile phones for an average of 48 minutes per day. That’s more than triple the average recorded four years earlier. When you factor in TV, total screen time tops out at about 2 hours and 9 minutes every day. 😱As a result more and more children, as young as 5 years old, are reporting neck 😳pain and back 😳pain.
Cutting down on screen time is the first step to preventing future discomfort and inflammation, however, teaching your kids (and yourself) good posture 👍🏻when using mobile technological devices can go a long way.
1. Holding your phone up higher at eye level puts less strain on your neck.👀
2. Resting a tablet on a table, instead of holding the device in your hands or on your lap, can also ease the weight exerted on hands and wrists.
3. Using 2 hands to text instead of one hand puts less strain on any one thumb and helps support the phone.
4. Set reminders (like your phone timer) ⏱to signal a break from using the device will help remind your child to sit up or change their position.
If your child is complaining of neck😳 pain or back 😳pain from using mobile technological devices, it is important to have them assessed by an Expert Paediatric Physiotherapist in order to determine the cause of their neck 😳pain or back 😳pain.
