Welcoming a new baby 👶🏻into the family is a wonderful experience
After months of anticipation, the joys of holding baby and cuddling baby is beyond words! However, for many new mums, 🤱the action of picking up baby, cuddling baby, feeding baby places a lot of stress on their thumbs and wrists causing shooting pain in their thumbs and wrists.

Common symptoms of wrist pain that new mums often experience include:
😳Pain near the base of your thumb
🙁Swelling near the base of your thumb
😖Difficulty moving your thumb and wrist when you’re doing something that involves grasping, pinching, turning your wrist or making a fist
😣A “sticking” or “stop-and-go” sensation in your thumb when moving it

If the condition goes too long without treatment, the pain may spread further into your thumb, back into your forearm or both.
If that sounds like you, you are not alone. What you are probably experiencing is De Quervain’s Syndrome.

De Quervain’s Syndrome is a painful condition affecting the tendons on the thumb side of your wrist. The exact cause of De Quervain’s Syndrome isn’t known, any activity that relies on repetitive hand or wrist movement — such as working in the garden, playing golf or racket sports, or lifting your baby 👶🏻— can make it worse.

Luckily De Quervain’s Syndrome can be effectively treated with Physiotherapy and if diagnosed and treated early, it can be effectively resolved in 6 to 8 weeks.
