Wondering how much sleep and wake time your baby should have throughout the day🤔

Struggling to fit in Tummy Time to play because baby seems to be tired and irritable all the time 😴
Tummy time is important for babies because it helps 👶🏻 to strengthen their neck muscles and to prevent a flatten head shape. The SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) guidelines indicate that babies should be on their backs to sleep to prevent SIDS and tummy to play to prevent flattened head shapes.

Below is a sleep/play/feed guide for babies from 0 to 6 months old. This is a guide only and variations may be needed to meet the needs of individual babies.

At 0-6 week old, babies should feed every 2-4 hours, and have 6-10 feeds🍼 over a 24 hour cycle. Babies should be awake to feed and play for around an hour each time and then sleep for 1.5-3 hours 😊for 5-6 sleeps/naps in 24 hour cycle.

At 6-12 week old, babies should feed every 2-4 hours, and have 6-8 feeds 🍼over a 24 hour cycle. Babies should be awake to feed and play for 1-1.5 hours each time and then sleep😴 for 1.5-2.5 hours for 4-5 sleeps/naps in 24 hour cycle.

At 3-4.5 months old, babies should feed 🍼every 3-4 hours, and have 5-6 feeds over a 24 hour cycle. Babies should be awake to feed and play for 1.5-2 hours each time and then sleep for 1.5-2 hours for 3 daytime naps. 😴

At 4.5-6 months old, babies should feed 🍼 every 3-4 hours, and have 4-6 feeds over a 24 hour cycle. Babies should be awake to feed and play for 2-2.5 hours each time and then sleep for 1.5-2hours for 3 daytime naps. 😴

Babies often sleep better after having active playtime but may become more irritable when they have been over stimulated and over-tired. 😡It is important to be able to recognise the tired signs that your baby is showing you.
