Are you concerned that your little one isn’t walking yet 😳

Wondering at what age should a child be walking 🚶‍♀️
Is your child still bottom shuffling at 18 months old🧐

All typically developing babies 👶🏻 should be walking independently by 18 months old, otherwise they would be considered delayed in their gross motor skills. Some babies achieve walking independently at 11 months old. So between 9-14 months babies are starting to pull to stand and learning to walk around the furniture, letting go of the furniture to start to take steps by themselves.

If your child doesn’t look like they are wanting to even put weight on their feet 👣between the ages of 9-12 months, it is likely that they are at risk of being delayed in their gross motor skills. If your child 👶🏻 is bottom shuffling and not wanting to go onto their hands and knees to crawl, they are missing out on strengthening 💪 their hip and shoulder joints as well as learning to coordinate their hands and knees to crawl. This often results in poor coordination and strength later on and these children are unable to hop, skip and jump as well as their peers. 😢

The good news 😊 is Early Intervention through Paediatric Physiotherapy helps babies learn to crawl, pull to stand and walk. So you don’t have to wait and hope baby will grow out of bottom shuffling and start to put weight on their feet, only to find that they are now 18 months old and not doing so! 😳
