Sciatica is a term used to describe low back pain that goes down to the leg, which is often described as sharp, shooting or a deep ache. The leg pain is typically worse than the lower back pain and is often one sided and goes below the knee. Sciatica has been reported to occur in 1 to 10% of the population, most commonly in people age 25 to 45 years.
No imaging or scan are required to confirm Sciatica, instead Sciatica is diagnosed clinically by specific tests carried out by an Expert Physiotherapist. It is very important to determine if your low back pain and leg pain is Sciatica or whether the low back pain and leg pain are two separate pains so that you receive the correct treatment to overcome your back and leg pain.
