Squats aren’t a one size fits all exercise! 🧐

Did you know that some people require their feet to be more aligned while others need their foot facing outwards while squatting 😮

Squatting is a fantastic exercise for strength and endurance building. 🏋️‍♀️However squats can also be one of those exercises that can cause a lot of injuries. Majority of the time, injuries occur due to poor form and poor understanding of the biomechanics of squatting. One of the things that people need to consider when squatting is their foot alignment. 🦶People would ask “do i keep my foot aligned or have them slightly turning out when squatting”😨.

Well the answer to this is IT DEPENDS. It depends on your natural hip alignment. Some people have an anteversion (hip twists forwards) and some have a retroversion (hip twists backwards) in the hip. Depending on how your hip is naturally shaped and formed your foot stance will change also. 😮

If you take the wrong foot stance when squatting this can place excessive stress on your hip, lower back, knee and foot leading to injury. This is where an Expert Physiotherapist 🤓can help. Here at My Favourite Physio, by analysing your form and assessing your hip joints our Expert Physiotherapists can help you achieve your goals and help you prevent injuries when squatting. 😊
