26 Nov Been told to try swimming🏊♀️ for your Knee 😳Pain but you are worried that you can’t swim
Well, Guess What 🤔You don’t have to swim to do Hydrotherapy🤗
Hydrotherapy is the use of water in the treatment of different conditions, including knee pain,🦵 back pain, shoulder pain, arthritis, even pre- and post surgery rehabilitation. Hydrotherapy differs from swimming because it involves special exercises that you do in a warm-water pool. The water temperature is usually 33–36ºC, which is warmer than a typical swimming pool. Hydrotherapy is usually taught by Physiotherapists, 🤓with the focus of the exercises adjusted to help your range of movement or strength, depending on your symptoms. Hydrotherapy tends to be different to aquarobics, which can be quite strenuous, as it’s generally more focused on slow, controlled movements and relaxation.
You don’t have to be able to swim to benefit from hydrotherapy. A Hydrotherapy pool is usually quite shallow (about chest height), 🚶♀️so you can exercise well within your depth. There is usually a ramp access or hoist to enter a Hydrotherapy pool, so you don’t have to worry about climbing in and out of stairs to get in or out of the pool. 😊
Hydrotherapy takes advantage of buoyancy of water, 🌊so that you can move your knees and hips without stressing your joints like walking on land. This means that the exercises performed in the water are more supported and less painful than on land. With the use of different types of floats, Hydrotherapy allows you to progress the exercises with increasing resistance against the water, so you can 🦵strengthen your knee muscles without the accompanying knee pain.
Here at My Favourite Physio, our Expert Physiotherapists 🤓often recommend Hydrotherapy as part of our Knee Rehabilitation Program and help our clients create an individualised Hydrotherapy Exercise Program that they can carry out in their local heated indoor pool.
