Have you noticed that your child is tripping on their own feet

Does your child walk pigeon toed 😳
Or perhaps you have been told that your child will grow out of it, but you noticed that their feet isn’t getting straighter and they are tripping and falling a lot 😬

Did you know that pigeon toeing can be corrected 😲 And the best outcomes for correcting pigeon toeing is when children are seen younger. This means that the treatment and intervention for babies and toddlers is easier than school aged children.

3 Signs to check for if you are concerned about your child being pigeon toed:

1. Does your child W-sit with their feet behind them and turned in? 😳If your child frequently W-sits, it places their feet in a turned-in position which exacerbated the pigeon toed posture. So the first thing to do is to discourage W-sitting and encourage Cross- legged sitting.

2. Can you straighten your child’s foot?🦶Holding the back half of baby’s foot in one hand, with your other hand holding the front half of baby’s foot gently try to straighten baby’s foot. If you find that you cannot easily straighten baby’s foot, then it could be a bony problem that needs to be assessed by an Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists. 🤓

3. What’s your child’s resting foot posture ?🧐 Have a look at your child’s foot position when they are lying on their backs relaxed or when they are asleep. Are their feet turned in or straight? If their feet is straight at rest but turned in when they are standing or walking, it could be due muscle 🦵imbalance when they are walking that needs to be assessed by an Expert Paediatric Physiotherapist.
