Experiencing episodes of severe headaches
Feeling clumsy with your hands when you are experiencing episodes of headaches
Or perhaps you experience changes in vision , smell or hearing during or prior to an headache episode
With episodes of severe headaches and associated symptoms occurring, people often go and see neurologists and neurosurgeons as they worry that they may have had a stroke or have a brain tumour as other parts of the body are affected by the headaches and the severity of the headaches are extreme. Scans such as CT scans, MRIs and X rays often show nothing. Medications are often prescribed and lots of them but they only show little benefits. You are often still left with the headaches that cause other issues such increased sensitivity to light, sound and smell.
It is important for people experiencing these types of headaches and in fact anyone experiencing any type of headaches, to understand that the sensitised brainstem is the major cause of headaches. What sensitise the brainstem is actually the upper neck joints. Now unfortunately scans such as MRI and CT’s of the neck and brain will not show this. To identify the issue in the neck, a headache trained physiotherapist needs to feel and assess the neck properly.
Here at My Favourite Physio, our Expert Physiotherapists are headache trained physiotherapists who thoroughly assess and treats headaches by looking into the neck.
