Have you been told that a child with Down Syndrome cannot do many things in life because they have low muscle tone
The truth is children with Down Syndrome like every other typically developing child are capable of doing anything they want with the right training, support and preparation. Like anyone who decides to run a marathon, preparation and training is required months before the event in order to ensure a successful outcome. The same applies for a child with Down Syndrome who is to learn to roll, sit, crawl, walk, run, hop, skip, jump, swim, dance, act, cook, surf, sail and more… the possibilities are endless.
Here at My Favourite Physio, our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists work with many families and children with Down Syndrome to ensure that each child achieves their gross motor skills milestones to learn to walk by 18 months old, the same as typically developing children. As the children get older, we work towards achieving higher balance activities like running, hopping, jumping and skipping. For teenagers we work on specific sporting tasks and drills, depending on what each child wants to achieve or what they are interested in. The possibilities are endless…. the only limitation is your imagination.
If you have a child with Down Syndrome and you would love to see him reach his full potential in life, ring My Favourite Physio on (02) 9790 4233 to speak to one of our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists today. Ask about our 15 Minute FREE PHONE CONSULT.
