Been told that you need to get a new hip joint because your hip joint is bone on bone 😳
Feeling overwhelmed because you’ve been told that you need a Total Hip Replacement Surgery

If you answered yes to the above statements, then you are not alone. Having arthritis and hip pain can often make walking and getting up from sitting painful and difficult. However, the decision to undergo a Total Hip Replacement isn’t a casual decision to make.

Although this is a procedure with the potential to substantially improve function and quality of life, it is a big operation with risks and costs involved. There are many issues to consider when determining when is ‘the right time’ for you to have a Total Hip Replacement Surgery.

Here at My Favourite Physio, our Expert Physiotherapists often encourage our patients to take into consideration the follow 2 key issues:
• The decision whether or not to have a Total Hip Replacement surgery is a very personal one, influenced strongly by how your arthritic hip pain is affecting your quality of life. Also it is important to take note of your willingness to undergo the pre-surgery and post-surgery rehabilitation process.
• There is a considerable mismatch between changes on X-rays and symptoms, some people will experience only mild symptoms with good function despite advanced osteoarthritis and cartilage loss in their hip joints, while others with less hip joint damage may experience quite severe symptoms and struggle with their daily activities.

The 3 main criteria to be eligible for Total Hip Replacement surgery are;
• Not responding to conservative treatments like exercise and physiotherapy,
• Persistent pain over a long period of time
• Pain that is impacting on function and mobility

If you do not fulfil the 3 main criteria for Total Hip Replacement or, if you haven’t tried physiotherapy yet, ring My Favourite Physio on (02) 9790 4233 or DM us @myfavouritephysio today to speak to one of our Expert Physiotherapists, to find out how we can help you overcome your hip pain today to get back to active pain free living.
