Physiotherapy treatment for their low back pain often include advice for good shoes👟 to help reduce their low back pain.

Here are the 3 Key Features of a pair of good shoes that can help reduce your low back pain:
👟1. Good shock absorption. A pair of shoes with good soles that can absorb the shock as your heel hits the ground will reduce the stress and shock that travels up your heel to your knee to your lower back. Examples of good shoes with shock absorption are running shoes with rubber soles. Dress shoes with wooden heels or high heel shoes would provide poor shock absorption with every step you take.

👟2. Good arch support. A pair of shoes with good arch support will keep your foot bones in good alignment so that your ankle, knee and hips are well aligned when you stand or walk. This will help reduce muscle imbalance in your legs and lower back, hence reducing your low back pain. Good arch support can be achieved using additional orthotic insoles.

👟3. Lightweight Flexible shoes. Due to workplace safety, many people have to wear steel capped toes boots which can be heavy and add more stress to the ankle and calf muscles when walking. However, there are now many work boots and safety shoes which are designed with lighter material to make the shoes lighter to wear and flexible in the sole to allow a more natural heel strike and push off movement in the foot when walking.
