Does your child have Cerebral Palsy that affects their arm causing their elbow to be bend
Have you noticed that it’s difficult for y you our child to straighten their arm to use their hand to play
Have you been told that Botox is the only way to help your child to relax and straighten their arm
Did you know that serial casting for the arm can help straighten and relax your child’s arm so that they can have more movement in their elbow Having more movement in their elbow will then allow them to be able to learn to use their hand more to play.
Here at My Favourite Physio, our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists are able to do serial casting to help children with Cerebral Palsy gain more movement in their elbow and wrists so that they are able to learn to use their hands to play.
Miss E is one of the little ones who we have been serial casting to help straighten out her elbow. Miss E has mild Cerebral Palsy which affects her left arm and foot, which means that her left elbow is usually bend at 90 degrees and she is unable to straighten her arm to use her left hand easily to play. With just one week of casting her arm relaxed to come down by her side, so that her left hand is in a more functional position to reach and play. The protocol that we are using for her is 1 week casting on and one week off, so that she is able to exercise and use her arm between casting. The photo below shows her arm in her second cast and it is now down by her side. We are excited at the significant improvement in her elbow and arm movements.
