27 Feb Concerned that your toddler👧 is falling a lot 😳 Wondering if it’s normal for your toddler to limp after a fall 🤔
When learning to walk 🚶♀️or run 🏃♀️, it’s normal for toddlers 🧒 to trip and fall as they learn to find their balance while on the move. Most toddlers will look stunned 😳 when they fall on the ground and look 👀 to you to see your reaction to figure out if it’s ok or not. If you smilingly 😊 reassure them and tell them that they are Ok 👌. Most toddlers 👧 will simply pick themselves up and get back to playing.
However, if your toddler 🧒 falls and cries inconsolably 😭 where you have to pick them up to comfort them to settle them. Make sure you watch 👀 them as you put them back down on the ground to play. If you notice that your toddler doesn’t want to stand up and try to walk, or sits back down immediately or walks with a limp after the fall, ask them if anywhere hurts.☹️ Touch their legs to feel for any areas of tenderness or 😳 pain which makes them pull away. If they react with pain or pull away from you, it’s important to have them assessed by your family doctor 👨⚕️ or a Paediatric Physiotherapist🤓 to ensure that your toddler did not break a bone from the fall.
Don’t wait and see if your toddler’s limp will get better. It’s NOT normal to limp after a fall. If you are concerned about your child 🧒, ring My Favourite Physio 📱on (02) 9790 4233 or DM us @myfavouritephysio to speak to one of our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists 🤓today.
