🤰Expecting your first baby? 🤔Are Breastfeeding classes on your list of antenatal activities to attend?

Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for most babies.🤱 As baby grows, the mother’s breast milk will change to meet her baby’s nutritional needs.Breastfed babies have a lower risk of asthma, obesity, type 1 diabetes, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Breastfed babies are also less likely to have ear infections and stomach bugs.
Breastfeeding has health benefits for the mother too! Some cancers, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure are less common among women who breastfeed.😊

Here at My Favourite Physio, we see many mothers and their babies to help babies learn to move better. One of the common issues we hear mothers report includes babies having difficulties with latching and feeding, leading to poor weight gain.🥺 Our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists also have experience with breastfeeding and feeding therapy, as such we are often able to assist mothers with their breastfeeding techniques. Many mothers do not realise that breastfeeding is a learned skill, for mums and babies alike.

Many expectant mothers are not aware that they can attend antenatal and post natal breastfeeding classes to learn how to breast feed. The Breastfeeding Association offers face-to-face Breastfeeding Education Classes 🤱that run for about 3 hours and offer small-group interaction and, in many cases, a demonstration of breastfeeding by a local mum with a young baby. The classes are designed for expectant parents to prepare for breastfeeding in the vital days, weeks and months after their baby’s birth. The sessions aim to expand upon the knowledge gained at hospital antenatal classes, and give up-to-date information and insights into breastfeeding a baby and parenting in the early days.
