😳 Noticed your child walking on their tip toes all the time after they turned 2 years old? 🥴Been told that its just tight calf muscles and all they need is to exercise more? 😬But your child is now almost 4 years old and they are still walking on their tip toes all the time?

Tip toe walking is often seen in toddlers when they start to learn to walk, especially toddlers who have spend a lot of time in Baby Walkers and Jolly Jumpers. However, tip toe walking is an abnormal movement pattern and if a child continues to walk on their tip toes after 2 years old, they should be assessed by an Expert Paediatric Physiotherapist to determine the cause of their tip toe walking.

There are many causes for a child to be tip toe walking, including
1.Cerebral palsy
This is a neurological condition, whereby an injury or abnormal development in the immature brain resulted in movement disorders affecting muscle tone and posture of the legs, which is seen as tip toe walking.
2.Muscular dystrophy
This is a group of diseases that cause progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass over time. This diagnosis might be more likely if your child initially walked normally before starting to toe walk.
3. Autism
Toe walking has been linked to autism spectrum disorders, which affect a child’s ability to communicate and interact with others.
4 Idiopathic Toe Walking
This is a condition of exclusion, whereby none of the above causes are found but a child has tight calf muscles and is tip toe walking. One major factors contributing to idiopathic toe walking is the use of Baby Walkers and Jolly Jumpers.
