Falls and spills can sometimes end up with disastrous injuries like broken bones. 😢Broken bones are common injuries and many children will experience one fracture in their growing years. Because children’s bones are growing rapidly, they are more flexible and may not break completely. Instead what we see is a Greenstick Fracture, this is where the bone tends to bend but not break completely. 🧐

A greenstick fracture is often treated using a cast or splint for 4 to 8 weeks depending on the location of the break, the severity of the break and the child’s age. 👧
After the cast is removed, it is not uncommon to find your child still limping when they walk, like they are still wearing a cast. Or to find your child not using their hand like their used to before the greenstick fracture.

Most children will recover within a few weeks, but some children still persist with a limp or not use their arm properly after 2-4 weeks. This is when it is important to seek professional advice.👩‍⚕️ Persistent limp or avoiding the use of one arm after a fracture can cause secondary problems like hip or knee pain on the opposite leg, or muscle imbalance in the good arm and back.
