😳 Noticed that your child seems to stand with their shoulders uneven and hips tilted? 🥴Find yourself constantly telling your child to stand up straight because they look twisted or slouched? 🤔Wondering does your child have scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a condition which describes a curvature of the spine, and is believed to arise from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. While some cases of scoliosis deal with a stable degree of curvature in the spine, in other cases the degree of the curve increases over time.

Scoliosis most commonly emerges between the ages of 10 and 20, 👧when the spine goes through a period of rapid
growth. It is more common in females than males.

Frequently scoliosis has no identified cause, in which case it is termed idiopathic scoliosis. Approximately 90% of idiopathic scoliosis cases are considered mild, requiring only ongoing observation 👀 until the skeletal maturity is reached at about 21 years old.

😊Successful management and treatment of Scoliosis depends on early monitoring and early intervention in children. Treatment of scoliosis generally depends on the curve, location and cause of the scoliosis, but extreme cases require bracing, and in some cases, surgery, 👨‍⚕️to correct the problem.

Here at My Favourite Physio, our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists 🤓perform regular spine checks to screen for scoliosis in children 👧who present with an uneven posture, or have neurological conditions like cerebral palsy, or generalised hypotonia. Early detection means that we can proactively prevent the development of scoliosis or minimise the severity of scoliosis in children.
