😳 Have you noticed that your newborn baby’s foot looks funny? 😬Been told not to worry, Baby’s foot will uncurl after a few weeks, but months later, Baby’s foot still looks curled!🦶

Clubfoot, also known as talipes equinovarus, is a congenital condition where a baby’s foot or feet appear to be twisted or out of shape. It’s one of the most common congenital musculoskeletal anomalies, occurring in about 1 in every 1,000 live births.

The primary characteristics of clubfoot include:
🦶Foot inversion: The affected foot is turned inward and downward, making it appear like the person is standing on the sides of their feet.
🦵Heel cord tightness: The Achilles tendon, which runs from the calf muscle to the heel bone, is often shorter and tighter in individuals with clubfoot.

The exact cause of clubfoot is not fully understood, but it is believed to result from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. It is not due to any prenatal behaviours or activities of the mother during pregnancy.

The Pirani score is a clinical assessment tool used to evaluate the severity of clubfoot deformity in infants and young children. Clubfoot can vary in severity, and it may affect one or both feet.

😬If left untreated, Clubfoot can lead to mobility issues and discomfort as the child grows. However, with early intervention and treatment, many children with clubfoot can lead normal, active lives. Treatment for clubfoot usually involves a process called “serial casting,” where the foot is gently manipulated into a more normal position and then placed in a cast. These casts are changed regularly as the foot gradually improves its position.
