🥴Ever been told by your partner that you are just over reacting and there’s nothing wrong with baby? 🤱Yet a mother’s instinct is hard to ignore…

Being a first time parent brings with it the joys of motherhood, along with the challenges of sleepless nights, self doubt or worry you will experience as you get to know your little one. 🥺Discovering their cues for sleep, play and feeds, learning what their different cries mean and unravelling what normal developmental milestones are can at times feel overwhelming.

Here at My Favourite Physio, our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists 🤓often meet parents who bring their little ones for assessment because they have been concerned about little ones gross motor skills development. Recently, our team met Miss J with her mum and dad. Mum has been worried that Miss J seems to be floppy and slower in her gross motor skills milestones compared to other babies around her. Dad however, was skeptical and felt that Mum was simply over-reacting and that there is nothing wrong with Miss J. 👶🏻

Our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapist carried a standardised Gross Motor Skills Assessment on Miss J to determine if her gross motor skills are age appropriate. The Assessment indicated that Miss J is actually delayed in her gross motor skills milestones. Her gross motor skills were equivalent to a baby half her chronological age. Mum was upset to hear that but at the same time felt vindicated because her mother’s instinct was Miss J was struggling to move by herself. Dad was shocked at the findings, but luckily was onboard with getting Miss J the help she needs to achieve her best potential. So we commenced twice a week Early Intervention Paediatric Physiotherapy to help Miss J increase her core muscle strength to learn to move better! 😊
