😬Been told that your child with Special Needs will need a wheelchair because they will never walk 🥺Love to see your child with Special Needs have an opportunity to learn to walk

Research shows that getting access to Early Intervention as early as possible will give a child their best chance of learning, regardless of the condition or diagnosis. 💪However, the effectiveness of Early Intervention programs in helping children with special needs walk or develop other motor skills can vary widely depending on the specific needs and challenges of the child. When it comes to walking, the goal is not just about helping a child walk earlier, but also ensuring that they develop the skills and capabilities needed for safe and functional mobility.

Here at My Favourite Physio, our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists 🤓have over 27 years of experience in working with children with Special Needs. Using a variety of evidence based treatment strategies, we are able to help little ones build core strength, lower limb strength, balance and coordination to help them achieve their best potential. Treatment strategies that we offer include Radial Shockwave Therapy, Functional Electrical Stimulation, Low Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound, Harnessed Treadmill Walking, Equipment trials for Walkers, Standers, Bathchairs, Strollers, Wheelchairs and Car Seats.

When we see children with complex Special Needs, the journey towards learning to walk can span over a period of 5 years, especially when babies first present to our clinic at 👶🏻3 to 6 months old. Along the way, we may need to trial for equipments such as standers, walkers or stander-walkers. Some children will benefit from using a walker for a period of time in order to have more opportunities walking in their community. These children may then progress to a point where they achieve independent walking without any equipment! 🤗
