😬 Are you concerned that your toddler is not yet walking 😳Been told that boys/girls are lazy and they will walk when they are ready

Every week, At My Favourite Physio, our Expert Physiotherapists🤓 meet concerned parents who have been told exactly just that, “Boys/Girls are lazy, they will walk when they are ready.” And so parents talk themselves out of seeing an Expert Paediatric Physiotherapist to have their child assessed.

Recently, our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists 🤓met Master F and his parents. His mother had been concerned about his gross motor skills since he was 12 months old because he was not moving one side of his body equally to the other side. However, she was told by her family doctor that its normal. Fast forward at 18 months old, his mother was concerned that he was still not yet standing or walking. At that point in time, mum was told that “Boys are lazy, he will walk when he is ready. 😬So mum waited and wait until he was ready to walk. Eventually at 2.5 years old, when Master F was still not yet able to walk by himself, he was referred to a Paediatrician, who immediately referred him to My Favourite Physio to be assessed by one of our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists.

When we met Master F, we assessed his gross motor skills, muscle tone and joint range of movements to arrived at the diagnosis that Master F actually has mild Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy affecting one side of his body. This is the reason behind why he has been delayed in his gross motor skills. Mum was understandably upset,🥺 but at the same time immensely relieved to feel that she was right all along. Her mother’s instinct was right when she suspected that something was wrong and affecting his gross motor skills rather than Master F being lazy.

The good news is, Master F has been receiving Intensive Early Intervention Paediatric Physiotherapy and in 4 months is now walking independently!
