Wondering if your child will ever walk
Here at My Favourite Physio, our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists see babies and children who are delayed in their gross motor skills, with the goal of helping them achieve their best potential. The babies and children we see have various conditions varying from Global Developmental Delay, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Angelman Syndrome, Hypotonia, Microcephaly and many Rare Genetic conditions. By carrying out a full assessment, our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists are able to tailor an individualised therapy plan for each child that will help them learn to lift their heads up for tummy time, learn to roll, sit, crawl, pull to stand and walk.
During Physiotherapy, many babies and toddlers will cry or fuss because it is hard work learning a new skill and because it challenges them outside their comfort zone. As a parent, it can feel overwhelming and heartbreaking to see and hear your child cry. Especially when your world has been thrown into confusion and the future is unknown when you have been told your child has additional needs.
We see many parents who have been where you are, and are currently on a similar journey as you are, learning about a whole new world where therapy becomes a routine part of your world. We know how challenging it is and how stressful and sad it can feel. We want to tell you that you are not alone. We want to let you know that Intensive Early Intervention works. We want to say to you, when you see your child walking and running, all the tears that you have shed will be worth it. The struggles and uncertainly will diminish, your child and you will grow stronger, and for many children the struggles and challenges will not even be remembered. Your child will only know the joy and freedom of exploring their environment with their new found skills.
