12 Nov Wondering if you should get a brain scan to find out why you are experiencing Headaches or Migraines
Or Maybe You have had a scan to check out why you are experiencing Headaches or Migraines
There are various imaging such as MRI, CT scan and X rays that are continuously used in cases of headaches and migraines. They are used to try and determine the cause of the headaches and migraines. But interestingly these images actually provide little help in the diagnosis of headaches and migraines!
Yes, imaging can pick up sinister pathology like brain tumours but often for Headache and Migraine sufferers it comes back negative showing nothing in the brain and the neck – which IS GREAT as it rules out sinister pathology! For imaging of the neck it may show things such as degenerative changes in the neck and disc bulges which actually are not the cause of your Headaches and Migraines!
Overall imaging really provides minimal information in regards to the cause for Migraines and Headaches other than ruling out sinister pathology. This means imaging provides minimal or no information with regards to diagnosing the cause of your Headaches and Migraines.
To diagnose the cause of your Headaches and Migraines, what you NEED is to get an assessment which involves manual therapy from a Headache and Migraine Trained Expert Physiotherapist. During the assessment, if our Headache and Migraine Trained Expert Physiotherapists suspect a sinister pathology or a possible fracture in the neck, appropriate referrals for imaging will be made.
